What is ICAS?

ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) is an annual academic competition taken by over one million students across Australia and 20+ countries. It tests higher-order thinking across English, Mathematics, Science, Writing and Digital Technologies (Writing and DT begin from Year 3).

What subjects does Year 2 cover?

Year 2 ICAS (Paper Introductory) covers three subjects: English (30 questions, 45 min), Mathematics (40 questions, 45 min) and Science (35 questions, 45 min). Writing and Digital Technologies are introduced from Year 3 onwards.

How many questions per subject?

English: 30 multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes. Mathematics: 40 multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes. Science: 35 multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes. All questions are multiple-choice u2014 no short answers or essays in Year 2.

How long does my child have access?

12 months unlimited access. Retake quizzes as many times as you like. Progress is saved automatically.

What is Paper Introductory?

ICAS papers are labelled by difficulty level: Year 2 = Paper Introductory, Year 3 = Paper A, Year 4 = Paper B, Year 5 = Paper C, Year 6 = Paper D, Year 7 = Paper E, Year 8 = Paper F, Year 9 = Paper G, Year 10 = Paper H.

What are the ICAS medal bands?

ICAS awards High Distinction (top 1%), Distinction (top 2u201310%), Credit (top 11u201325%), Merit (top 26u201350%) and Participation certificates. Each subject is ranked independently across all participating students.

Is ICAS available in my state or country?

Yes. ICAS is available across all Australian states and territories (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, TAS, ACT, NT) and in New Zealand, Singapore, and other countries. Students can sit at their school or at an authorised testing centre.
