FAQ
What is the WA GATE / ASET?
The WA GATE program places academically exceptional Year 6 students into specialised Year 7 secondary programs across 24 WA schools. Entry is determined solely by the Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET), developed by ACER.
Is this based on the real ASET format?
Yes. All questions are aligned to the ACER ASET format across all four sections: Reading Comprehension, Writing, Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning.
How many mock exams are included?
3 full-length mock exams covering all 4 ASET sections: Reading (35q, 35min), Writing (1 task, 25min), Quantitative Reasoning (35q, 35min) and Abstract Reasoning (35q, 20min).
How long does my child have access?
12 months unlimited access. Retake quizzes as many times as you like. Progress saved automatically.
Is the real ASET paper-based?
Yes. The real ASET is fully paper-based - students fill in bubble answer sheets for multiple choice and write their Writing response by hand. We recommend practising handwriting speed alongside online practice.
What TSS does my child need?
Perth Modern School requires a TSS of approximately 244+ out of 400. Other GATE programs have thresholds typically between 209 and 235. Thresholds vary slightly each year.
What is Abstract Reasoning?
Abstract Reasoning tests pattern recognition using shapes and diagrams - no curriculum knowledge required. It is the fastest-paced section (34 seconds per question) and the most trainable with practice.
