Do Units 1 & 2 count toward ATAR?
Units 1 & 2 results do not directly contribute to ATAR or study score. Only Units 3 & 4 results count. However, knowledge and skills from Year 11 directly determine Units 3 & 4 performance.
What is a SAC?
SACs (School Assessed Coursework) are internal assessment tasks completed in class under supervised conditions. In Units 1 & 2, all assessment is through SACs set by your school. In Units 3 & 4, SAC marks contribute to your study score alongside the VCAA external exam.
How does Year 11 connect to Year 12?
The linguistic metalanguage and analytical frameworks introduced in Units 1 & 2 are the foundation of Units 3 & 4. Students who master the subsystems of language in Year 11 find Units 3 & 4 significantly more accessible.
Can I change subjects after Year 11?
Changing between Year 11 and Year 12 is possible but more disruptive than changing before Year 11. Speak with your VCE coordinator early if you are considering a change.
Is Units 1 & 2 harder than Year 10?
Yes. VCE demands more independent thinking, deeper content knowledge and more sophisticated writing than junior secondary. Building strong study habits early in Year 11 makes the transition much smoother.
When should I start preparing for Units 3 & 4?
From the very first day of Units 1 & 2. Everything you build in Year 11 is your Units 3 & 4 preparation.
How many subjects should I study?
Most students study 5-6 subjects. Your school and VCE coordinator can advise based on your academic profile and university goals.
