How is the HSC mark calculated?
Your final HSC Chemistry mark is 50% internal school assessment + 50% HSC external exam. The two components are combined and moderated by NESA.
Band 6 is the top performance band (90-100 marks). Band 6 (90-100). Accurate calculations, correct chemical equations, precise explanations and data analysis are essential.
How important is internal assessment?
Internal assessment counts for 50% of your final HSC mark. Your rank within your school is what matters most - rank as highly as possible in every internal task.
HSC written examinations are typically held in October-November each year. Trial exams at your school typically occur in August-September. Check the NESA website for confirmed dates.
Good-high scaling. Rewards accuracy, mathematical skill and detailed scientific understanding. Scaling is performed by UAC and adjusts each subject's marks based on cohort performance before ATAR is calculated.
How do I use past papers?
Past HSC Chemistry papers are available free on the NESA website at nesa.nsw.edu.au. Practising past papers under timed conditions is one of the most effective forms of HSC preparation.
