Do Units 1 & 2 count toward ATAR?
Units 1 & 2 do not directly contribute to ATAR. Only Units 3 & 4 results count through QTAC scaling. However, Year 11 knowledge and IA skills directly determine Units 3 & 4 performance where IAs are worth up to 75%.
Why do IAs have high weighting in QCE?
QCE's system assesses students across multiple task types throughout the year. The high IA weighting rewards consistent sustained effort and reduces the impact of a single exam day on ATAR.
How does Year 11 assessment work?
In QCE Units 1 & 2 all assessment is internal u2014 set by your school and confirmed by QCAA. There is no QCAA external examination in Year 11.
Can I change subjects after Year 11?
Changing subjects is possible but may require catching up on prerequisite content. Speak with your school's QCE coordinator early if considering a change.
When should I prepare for Units 3 & 4?
From day one of Units 1 & 2. Every lesson and IA in Year 11 builds your ATAR foundation.
How many subjects should I study?
Most students study 5-6 subjects. ATAR eligibility requires at least 5 General subjects including English and Maths. Your school's QCE coordinator can advise.
How does QCE differ from HSC and VCE?
QCE IAs are worth up to 75% vs 50% in HSC. QCE uses a 0-100 raw score vs HSC Band 1-6 and VCE study score 0-50. QCE results are scaled by QTAC, HSC by UAC, VCE by VTAC.
