VCE Chemistry Units 1 & 2 — 1 Practice Pack

Units 1 & 2 results do not directly contribute to ATAR or study score. Only Units 3 & 4 results count. However, knowledge and skills from Year 11 directly determine Units 3 & 4 performance.

SACs (School Assessed Coursework) are internal assessment tasks completed in class under supervised conditions. In Units 1 & 2, all assessment is through SACs set by your school. In Units 3 & 4, SAC marks contribute to your study score alongside the VCAA external exam.

Units 3 & 4 Chemistry u2014 equilibrium, electrochemistry, organic chemistry u2014 depends completely on Units 1 & 2 foundations. Stoichiometry from Unit 1 is used in every subsequent topic. Bonding and structure from Unit 1 underpins organic chemistry in Unit 4.

Changing between Year 11 and Year 12 is possible but more disruptive than changing before Year 11. Speak with your VCE coordinator early if you are considering a change.

Yes. VCE demands more independent thinking, deeper content knowledge and more sophisticated writing than junior secondary. Building strong study habits early in Year 11 makes the transition much smoother.

From the very first day of Units 1 & 2. Everything you build in Year 11 is your Units 3 & 4 preparation.

Most students study 5-6 subjects. Your school and VCE coordinator can advise based on your academic profile and university goals.
