How are QCE results calculated?
Your QCE English result is calculated from IAs (75%) and the external assessment (25%), combined to give a raw score out of 100. QTAC then scales this for ATAR.
Why do IAs have high weighting?
Queensland's system assesses students across multiple task types throughout the year. The high IA weighting rewards consistent work and reduces reliance on a single high-stakes exam.
How does QCE scaling work?
English is compulsory and the anchor subject for ATAR. Scaling is approximately neutral. High performers benefit from strong internal assessment results given the 75% IA weighting. QTAC scales all subject raw scores to allow fair comparison across subjects. Your ATAR uses your best five scaled results including English.
When is the external exam held?
QCAA external examinations are typically held in October-November. Check the QCAA website for confirmed dates.
Can I access past QCAA papers?
Yes u2014 past QCE English external assessment papers and marking schemes are available free at qcaa.qld.edu.au. Essential preparation resources.
VHA (Very High Achievement) is the top QCE achievement level, equivalent to an A grade (~85-100 raw score). It is the highest recognition in the QCE system.
How does QCE compare to HSC and VCE?
QCE IAs are worth 75% vs 50% in HSC and varies in VCE. QCE uses a 0-100 raw score vs HSC Band 1-6 and VCE study score 0-50. All three contribute to an ATAR calculated by the relevant state admissions body.
