Does NCEA count toward university entry?

Yes. NCEA Level 3 results determine your rank score for university entry. Higher grades in more credits give a better rank score.

What is the difference between internal and external assessment?

Internal assessments (internals) are completed during the year and marked by your teacher. External assessments are written exams at the end of the year marked by NZQA.

How many credits do I need to pass NCEA?

You need 80 credits for NCEA Level 1, 80 for Level 2, and 80 for Level 3 u2014 at least 20 from the relevant level in each case.

What is Merit and Excellence?

NCEA uses Achieved (pass), Merit (above pass), and Excellence (highest level). University entrance requires at least 14 credits at Merit or Excellence.

How should I prepare for end-of-year NCEA exams?

Use these practice packs under timed conditions, review all explanations, and focus on Achievement Standard requirements for English.
