📋 Internal Assessment Strategy
Maximising your Year 11 results

Year 11 Is 100% Internal Assessment

Every mark you receive in Preliminary Biology comes from school assessment tasks. There is no external exam. This means your relationship with your teacher, your understanding of assessment criteria and your consistency across tasks all directly determine your Year 11 result.

How to Approach Every Assessment Task

  1. Read the task description and marking criteria before starting work
  2. Plan your response before writing – structure earns marks
  3. Draft and seek feedback before the due date if possible
  4. Complete tasks before the deadline – late submissions may be penalised
  5. Review marked tasks carefully – understand exactly why marks were awarded or lost
💡 Your Year 11 internal rank matters in a specific way: it establishes your pattern of performance and your relationship with assessment in this subject. Students who rank highly in Year 11 almost always carry that ranking into Year 12.

Building Year 12 Readiness Through Year 11 Tasks

Essays and extended responses

Year 11 Biology essays build the writing habit and analytical vocabulary you will need for HSC extended responses. Treat every essay as HSC preparation.

Research tasks and projects

Year 11 research tasks develop the inquiry and source analysis skills assessed in HSC. Engage deeply – do not just meet minimum requirements.

Tests and examinations

Year 11 topic tests are direct practice for HSC examination conditions. Sit them seriously, review thoroughly and act on your results.
