VIC-SEL 2.3 – The Exam Format & Test Day

AustralianEdu
💻 The Exam Format & Test Day
What students experience on exam day

Paper-Based or Online?

The VIC Selective Entry exam is conducted at ACER-designated test centres – typically at or near the selective entry high schools. Unlike NAPLAN or the NSW tests, it is not held at the student’s own school. Students travel to a test centre on exam day.

On the Day

  • Students are seated in a supervised examination room
  • Each section has its own timed period with a clear start and finish
  • Two short breaks are provided between sections – approximately 20 minutes and 5 minutes
  • An administrator guides students through practice examples before each section begins
  • No calculator, dictionary or notes are permitted
⚠️ The exam runs for approximately 3 hours. Students should be prepared for a long, demanding day. Exam stamina is a real factor – build it through full timed mock practice.

What ACER Does Not Disclose

ACER does not publish official past papers, exact question counts, or marking rubrics for the VIC Selective exam. This is by design to prevent coaching that targets test format rather than genuine ability. Our mock exams are based on ACER sample questions and detailed student and educator reports of the exam experience.

💡 Because ACER does not release past papers, high-quality mock practice like this course is especially valuable. Students who have practised under timed conditions consistently outperform those who have not.
