VIC-SEL 2.2 – Registration & How to Apply

AustralianEdu
🏫 Registration & How to Apply
What parents and students need to do

Who Can Apply?

Students must currently be in Year 8 and be eligible to attend a Victorian government school. Students from all school types – government, Catholic and independent – can apply.

How to Register

  • Applications are submitted online through the ACER Selective Entry portal at selectiveentry.acer.org/vic
  • Applications typically open in February-March each year
  • The application closing date is usually in April – check the ACER website for exact dates
  • There is no application fee for most families (free for health care card or pensioner concession card holders and First Nations families)
⚠️ Applications close in April and cannot be submitted after this date. Set a calendar reminder as soon as the portal opens.

School Preferences

Students may apply to sit the exam and are then ranked. Offers are made based on rank order. Students select which schools they are interested in – the top-ranked eligible students receive offers from their preferred school first.

Equity Consideration Category

Up to 10% of places at each school are reserved for equity consideration applicants – students whose parents hold a Commonwealth Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, or First Nations students. These students may receive an offer below the standard merit threshold.

Special Provisions

Students with a disability or medical condition may apply for special provisions such as extra time. Contact ACER well in advance of the application closing date with supporting documentation.
