For English, nothing improves comprehension faster than reading regularly. Read fiction, non-fiction, poetry and information texts. 15 minutes of reading every day is more valuable than any single study session.
ICAS questions apply knowledge to new contexts. A student who understands WHY 7 in 472 equals 70 will solve any place value question. A student who just memorised examples will be stuck when the question changes.
The real ICAS is timed. Students who practise with a timer develop the pace and confidence that untimed practice does not build. Use the mock exam with a stopwatch.
| Subject | Single Best Improvement Action |
|---|---|
| 📚 English | Read for 15 minutes daily. After reading, retell the story — who, what, where, when, why. |
| ➕ Mathematics | Practise times tables until automatic. Spend 5 minutes every day on times tables (2×, 5×, 10× first). |
| 🔬 Science | Ask “why?” after every science observation. Why does ice melt? Why do plants grow toward light? |
