💻 The Online NAPLAN Format Explained
What students see on screen
How the Online Test Looks
The online NAPLAN uses a split-screen layout. For Reading, the passage appears on the left and questions on the right. Students do not need to scroll back and forth.
💻 This is why practising on a screen matters. Students who have only practised on paper can find the split-screen layout unfamiliar on test day.
How the Adaptive Format Works
The online NAPLAN is adaptive — difficulty adjusts based on each student’s answers in real time. Two students in the same class may see different questions, and that is completely normal.
- 🖱️ Students click or tap to select their answer
- ⬅️➡️ Students can move forward and backward between questions
- 🚩 Students can flag questions to come back to later
- ⏱️ A timer counts down in the corner of the screen
- ✅ Students click Submit when they have finished
✅ There is no penalty for a wrong answer — always attempt every question.
