| 🎯 What is the ACT AST used for? |
The AST is used by BSSS to scale and moderate students’ school-based assessment marks, ensuring fair ATAR calculations across different subjects and schools. |
| 📊 Does the AST score appear on my ATAR statement? |
No — your AST result is used in the calculation process but does not appear as a standalone score. You receive an ATAR, not a separate AST score. |
| 📚 Is there an official syllabus to study? |
No. The AST tests general reasoning ability, not specific curriculum content. The best preparation is practising the four reasoning domains: English, Maths, Science and Humanities. |
| ⏱️ Can I use a calculator? |
No calculators are permitted in any section of the AST. |
| ✅ Can I improve my AST score with practice? |
Yes — significantly. Unlike IQ tests, AST performance improves substantially with targeted practice, particularly in Short Answer and Essay sections. |
| 📅 When will I find out my ATAR? |
ATARs are released in December, after all exams and results have been processed by BSSS. |
| 🔄 What if I get sick on exam day? |
Contact your school immediately. BSSS has processes for special consideration and illness provisions. Act as quickly as possible. |
