What parents need to do

Step 1 – Choose Your Schools

The first step is identifying which independent schools you are applying to. Search the ACER participating schools list at acer.org/au/scholarships. Students can apply to multiple schools – ACER reports results to all schools the student has applied to.

Step 2 – Register on the ACER Portal

  • Create a parent account at acer.org/au/scholarships
  • Register your child for each school you wish to apply to
  • Pay the registration fee (set by each individual school – typically $50-150 per school)
  • Applications typically open in September-October the year before testing
  • Applications close in late January or early February – popular schools may close earlier
⚠️ Registration deadlines are firm. Applications typically close in late January/early February. SA schools close earlier. Check each school’s specific deadline and register well in advance.

All Other States (QLD, NSW, NT, WA, VIC, ACT, TAS) Saturday 28 February 2026
Alternative date schools Set own dates throughout the year

After the Exam

Results are available to schools within 10 business days for alternative date schools, or as per the Schedule of Dates for cooperative program schools. Most families hear results in April-May. Schools then conduct interviews and make scholarship offers based on the combined assessment.
