ACER Level 1 – Common Parent and Student Questions
❓ Is the ACER exam the same format in all states?
Yes. The ACER Scholarship test format is identical nationally. SA schools test in early February; all other states test in late February.
❓ How many schools use ACER Scholarship testing?
Approximately 250 independent schools across Australia, spanning NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA, ACT and TAS. Schools range from Catholic systemic to elite GPS schools.
❓ How many mock exams are in this course?
This pack includes 3 full-length mock exams covering all ACER Level 1 sections with detailed answer explanations.
❓ What percentile does my child need?
Competitive academic scholarships typically require the top 10-15% nationally. Partial scholarships may start from the top 25-30%. Each school sets its own threshold – check with each school individually.
❓ Is the test score the only factor?
No. Most schools use ACER as the primary filter, then conduct interviews and consider school reports. The test is usually the most heavily weighted factor.
❓ How long does my child have access?
12 months from purchase. Quizzes can be retaken unlimited times and progress is saved automatically.
❓ When is the exam held?
SA schools test on the first Saturday in February. All other states test on the last Saturday in February. Applications open in September-October and close in late January.
❓ My child is in Year 6 – should we start now?
Yes. Starting preparation 6-12 months early is optimal. The reasoning skills tested by ACER take time to develop. Earlier preparation consistently produces better results than intensive last-minute study.
❓ Why are there Science BONUS sections if Level 1 doesn’t test science?
Science is not on the ACER Level 1 exam. The Science BONUS content is premium early-preparation material for students who will sit ACER at higher levels. It is completely optional for Level 1 and clearly labelled as bonus. Many families purchase the full bundle across multiple levels and appreciate the continuity.
